Memorial Day May 13th, 2019
For Pinot's Palette Apex North Carolina

Before you realize it, Memorial Day will be here. Memorial Day is considered the
official start of the summer here in the United States. Amid the fun barbecue parties,
beach trips, pools opening, blockbuster movie releases, and the fun long summer
days and fabulous warm summer nights that are to come, it can be easy to forget
what Memorial Day is actually all about.

Memorial Day is an American holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May,
honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military that enabled
and still enables our freedom. To me, Memorial Day is the day we remember what it
means to be a hero. It is the day we remember the heroes who gave everything for the
soldiers serving next to them and the people they left at home. Memorial Day means to
honor, respect, appreciate, remember and salute the fallen soldiers.

Here in the studio of Pinot’s Palette at Apex, we’d like to honor the fallen heroes AND celebrate the beginning of summer. How do we do both at the same time? We have a whole week to paint these paintings, but none is more special to me than our painting United We Stand.

Basket of Joy (Wednesday, May 22)

This painting will bring joy every time you look at it, and it is tons of fun to create. I love
how the simple wildflowers come together to make a beautiful bouquet. It is just the kind
of basket we’d like to bring into the house from our backyard or to bring to the heroes on
Memorial Day.

Japanese Crimson Moon (Thursday, May 23)

This contemporary picture with its deep crimson moon and delicate flowers are surreal. You don’t need to worry even if you’ve never painted since kindergarten. Our artists will lead you through the process step by step to create this beautiful piece of art.

Pandastic Days (Friday, May 24)

Oh. My. Goodness! How cute is this panda? I’m so in love with this colorful, beautiful painting! There’s nothing more summery to me than a fresh lemonade and a brand new pair of shades. Memorial Day, after all, is widely accepted as the beginning of summer. Have a pandastic day! This is a family event, which means you can bring your child(ren) as long as they are 8 years or older.

Summer Slice (Saturday, May 25)

I love watermelon. It is a cool treat on a sunny day. And it is simply summery and happy. This painting uses a variety of techniques yet it is not too hard for little hands. We welcome kids and grown-ups age 5 and above.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Mermaid (Saturday, May 25)
I can’t exactly tell you what ties this painting to Memorial Day, but it has something to do with ‘hero’. In my mind. This brave little mermaid is a hero, although one may say it is just a fairytale. She chose to vanish into the air knowing that she could return to her normal life as long as she obeys the sea witch and kills the prince. She chose to sacrifice herself instead of hurting an innocent. Of all the mermaid paintings we have, this is my favorite. In my mind, she vanished into the air, but she became a mermaid again, only to be more magical. Now she can sit on the moon and gaze into her favorite place - the ocean. Love the colors in this painting too, soft yet bright, perfect to decorate a girl’s room.

Aurora Through the Trees (Saturday, May 25)
This is one of my favorite paintings of all time. The night sky is filled with the bright lights of
the Aurora Borealis. Slender evergreens stand against a sky full of stars. Below, a tranquil
pond catches every little detail and color in its reflection. Join us to create this masterpiece!

United We Stand  (Sunday, May 26)

Ah, last, but not least, United We Stand. This painting can be done on a canvas or on a wood pallet; either way it is gorgeous. To me, it is the best painting for Memorial Day. It is about our country, our freedom and the heroes who fight for it. More importantly, it reminds us that we need to see beyond our differences and reach out to each other to unite, only then we will be invincible in defending our nation and our freedom.

There are so many fun paintings we have scheduled the week before Memorial Day. Please
take a look and join us for one of the upcoming classes. Whether you’re bringing your family,
your friends, or are coming by yourself for some well-needed quality time - we’d love to paint
with you!
